St. Francis of Assisi Parish
- Support the implementation of racial justice programs within St. Francis School (Diocese of Lansing is piloting a program called, “Facing History and Ourselves” at Lansing Catholic High School)
- Strengthen our connections with Washtenaw County’s Interfaith Council for Peace & Justice
- Strengthen our relationship with our sister parish, Corpus Christi in Detroit
- Keep racial justice in Prayers of the Faithful even after the protests end
- Develop new ministry to support unconvicted prisoners
Individuals
- Join a protest (safely and non-violently)
- Call and email politicians and tell them you support racial justice
- Vote for candidates who are committed to racial equality and justice – Congress, mayor, prosecutor, judge, city council, county commissioner
- At work, advocate for diversity; call out hiring practices that unconsciously favor the status quo
- Pray for national healing and justice
- Talk about the history and impact of racism with your family and friends
White Individuals
- Listen to people of color and believe them when they talk about how racism affects them
- When participating in events or actions, let people of color lead – follow their direction
- Educate yourself – See link to resources
- Cite black people when discussing “what the experts say”
- Embrace feeling uncomfortable when learning to talk about race and questioning what you thought you used to know
