Reader Formation Workshop
“He (Christ) is present in his word since it is he himself who speaks when the scriptures are read in the Church.” [Article 7, Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy]. Readers become the conduit through which God speaks. Being a part of this ministry is a great privilege, but it is also a great responsibility. The Diocese of Lansing requires ongoing formation for current and new Readers of the Word. Here at St. Francis, a Reader formation workshop is held every two years for the purpose of further educating our Readers and helping them to grow deeper in their faith. Our most recent workshop was held on March 11, 2017. If you were not able to join us, we hope that you will take advantage of the opportunity to watch the videos posted below. This workshop was very well received by those who attended, and we are excited to share it with those of you who were unable to be there. Enjoy!
The first presentation was given by our Parochial Vicar, Fr. Shaun Lowery, who spoke on The Importance of the Liturgy of the Word as Part of the Eucharistic Celebration.
The second presentation was given by Ceci Sheridan, who is retired from St. Andrew’s Church, in Saline, as Liturgist and Pastoral Associate. She spoke on The Nuts & Bolts of Proclaiming God’s Word. Also attached are six handouts that Ceci distributed at the Workshop.
Handouts:
#1 – A reading from the Book of the Prophet Isaiah
#3 – Explanation of Liturgical Readers
#4 – Explanation of the Lectionary
#5 – Outline of Liturgical Reader Training
#6 – The Order of the Mass – Reader Training
Thank you for taking the time to further your formation as a Reader of the Word. Your time and dedication to this ministry is greatly appreciated.
