Are You Experiencing a Life-Changing Event?
Do you Need Temporary Help?
We take our name from the Bible story about the Blessed Mother going to help Saint Elizabeth expecting the birth of John the Baptist. We have joyfully welcomed new babies with some meals for the family, brought dinners to single people just home from the hospital after surgery, prayed with families dealing with serious illness or injury, visited women who are on bed rest due to a difficult pregnancy, and helped people in many other situations where a little support from our community is needed.
How often do parishioners leave a Mass feeling alone and without help in their struggles? Because we do not know each other well, we often miss the opportunity to help or to ask for help in times of need. St. Francis has this beautiful ministry to address this issue. Currently, we find out about most of the people we help from our priests’ hospital visits. Many times people are reluctant to ask for help, but will accept it if it is offered. Please don’t hesitate to ask. Our mission is to make sure that no one feels alone here at St. Francis.
For over 25 years at St. Francis, each time a parishioner is identified as having a temporary need for some support help (new baby, sickness, difficult pregnancy, hospital recovery, etc.) women of our parish have formed a team of volunteers, called Elizabeth Ministry, who help by providing home-cooked meals, doing some laundry and offering prayers through our prayer chain. We are here for you. For help please contact the Parish Office (734-821-2100) .
An Invitation to all Women
This Elizabeth Ministry team is open to women who wish to encourage and support members of our parish through difficult times by providing a meal, or two, and perhaps a bit of help around the house. These women of our parish are a team of volunteers who receive an email invitation to Take-Them-a-Meal… each time a parishioner is identified as having a temporary need. Only a few women on the team are needed to respond to each situation. Even if you can help only once or twice a year, we welcome you, and invite you to join our team!
