July 22, 2006, attended by Debbie Melican and Ann Moln. The rededication of our "twinned" church, St. Paul the Apostle Church in New Orleans, was held at 4 p.m. on July 22nd. It was not only a spirit-filled and joyful service to celebrate the rebirth of this church, but also a time to commemorate its 60th anniversary. Two trees were planted in front of the church and all attendees were asked to write on slips of white paper their fears, pains, resolutions, or commitments. These slips of paper were buried in the ground and will be used as compost to bring life to these 2 new "trees of hope." After remarks by Bishop Robert Morin, Fr. Bernard spoke and thanked
the many, many people who helped put St. Paul's back together after the
damage of Hurricane Katrina. He singled out St. Francis of Assisi
parish as being (by far) the biggest help of all. It was a heartfelt
and touching tribute to the many members of this parish who gave so generously
to the needs of St. Paul's Church.

------------------------------ ------------------------------ Dear Debbie: As per our phone conversation this morning, here are some pictures of our progress so far. At the moment we worship in our school cafeteria and we now number over a hundred and fifty. On Ash Wednesday we will have two services with ashes: one at 12 noon and the other at 6pm. The Archdiocesan Architect and the our contractor met with me this morning to determine the final stages of our renovation plan. It is determined that our rebuilding will start in two weeks. Thus far have we come. Thanks for being a help on our way to recovery.
