St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Ann Arbor,
MI.
| The 2007
homeowner was,
a low-income, elderly person, a wonderful woman who lost her husband a
few years back and couldn't quite keep up. She could not maintain
her home on her own and has no family members available to help her.
Some tasks in 2007
included:
Bathroom
fixtures, tile/walls & floors needed replacement; Deck (sags) needed
repair/replacement; Carport needed repair/painting; Plenty of yard work;
Plant flowers. We got some help with the plumbing from the professionals
on hand.
(See below here the note
of thanks.)

Thanks to all of our volunteers for living out the
gospel of Jesus in this important way!
St. Francis Parishoners, dedicated to assuring that low-income homeowners,
particularly those, who are elderly, disabled, and famlies with children,
live in warmth, safety and independence, help to preserve and revitalize
a house in our community.
On behalf of the “Christmas in April” Team Leaders I wish to thank
all who contributed to our successful one-day home rehabilitation project!
Your generosity will be remembered by the receiving family for years to
come - Well done!

Rebuilding Together - Christmas in April - 2007 THANK YOU!!!!
What a glorious and remarkable day Saturday was. And, even more amazing
than the good weather in Michigan on an April weekend was the energy, enthusiasm,
dedication and effort that ALL demonstrated throughout a long work day.
Ben, our homeowner's son, said it best when he told me at the end of the
day that he was stunned not only by all the work that was accomplished,
but, also by the way we all went about it. He said that
every conversation he overheard was not "How can we get this done and go
home?”, but exactly the opposite as if every single person was treating
each task like it was their own home.
Since then our homeowner has been on the patio thoroughly enjoying (in
her words) her "new yard" watering and tending to the flowers and bushes.
Volunteering with the " Christmas in April - Rebuilding Together" effort
is a commitment to serve for just one day, at just one house with about
25 other awesome volunteers here in Washtenaw County. It is
always a surprise to see so many homes in such bad repair.
The homeowner selection process gives priority to low-income, elderly persons
who cannot maintain their home on their own and have no family members
available to help them.
We revitalized a house in our community.
Tasks we helped with included: Bathroom repairs; Deck repair/replacement;
Carport repair/painting; Plenty of yard work; Plant flowers.
Rebuilding Together, plan on the last Saturday of April in 2008!
Thank you for making this year 2007 such a success, Brian
O'Neil.
