Altar Servers

Any Baptized Catholic member of St. Francis of Assisi parish who is at least in fifth grade is welcomed to serve at the altar.

To be an altar server is a great privilege and responsibility.  Altar servers assist the priest at Mass as he leads the prayer of the community and prays over the bread and wine which the community has offered transforming those gifts into the body and blood of Jesus for the community.  This is very important because being able to become part of the body of Christ through the Eucharist is a way that Jesus offers us salvation from our sins and also a way that he remains with us in each other.

Altar servers, by their example, can also help the community to pray.  They are like St. John and St. Mary Magdalene who served Jesus with their companionship as he offered himself on the cross.  They are also like the disciples of Jesus who went to make preparations for the Last Supper in the Upper Room.

If you are interested in becoming an altar server then you are invited to join us in the fall (late September/early October) for one of our 3 training sessions offered here at St. Francis.  (Specific dates will be announced in advance each year)

We look forward to you helping by your good example to lead our community in prayer and worship.

Fr. John Linden
Associate Pastor
St. Francis of Assisi Parish
