Thomas Kean began studying piano at age eight and organ at age nine. He has performed internationally, accompanying choir concert tours in France in 1997, and Austria and Italy in 2001, including organ and piano performances at St. Jeanne d’Arc in Rouen, St. Croix in Orléans, and Notre Dame in Chartres, Notre Dame in Riems, La Madeleine in Paris, the Salzburg International Choir Festival, San Marco in Venice and St. Ignazio in Rome. He also accompanied High Mass at the Salzburg Cathedral and St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome.
Thomas attended the University of Michigan from 2002-2006, where he received undergraduate degrees in organ performance and music theory, studying organ under the direction of Dr. James Kibbie. He accompanied the University of Michigan Men’s Glee Club from 2003-2005. He traveled with the group on two concert tours: one to the British Isles in 2004, including a performance at St. Martin in the Fields, and one to the United States east coast in 2005, including a performance at Carnegie Hall.
Thomas is currently the new Music Director at St. Francis of Assisi in Ann Arbor, and is also a graduate student at the University of Michigan, studying organ performance under Dr. James Kibbie and music theory through the University of Michigan Rackham graduate program.
