Sunday Preschool / K (ages 3-5) Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS)
Program Information Session: Sunday CGS Preschool
Grades: 3-5 years old
Day: Sunday
Time: 9am-10am
Classes begin with an Open House on Sunday, September 11 with full class on the following week.
The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is an approach to the religious formation of young children that allows for the development of Faith using the methods of Maria Montessori.
Children gather in a room prepared for them, which contains simple yet beautiful materials for them to play and interact with. A young child, yet unable to read, can begin to understand a biblical passage or a prayer from the liturgy by taking the created objects that represent that text and by working (playing) with it – placing wood figures of sheep in a sheepfold of the Good Shepherd, setting sculpted apostles around a Last Supper table, or preparing a small altar with the furnishings used for the Eucharist.
Classes at St. Francis begin September 11 with an open house and run most Sundays until early May for one hour 9am-10am. Classes meet every week.
