Knights
of Columbus
August 2006
From the Grand Knight
Dear Brother Knights,As I begin my term as our Council's Grand Knight I would like to thank our immediate Past Grand Knight Michael Cesar for his dedicated service and hard work on behalf of our Council. It is with a sense of humility that I begin my term as Grand Knight. I would like to encourage all members to get involve in the service programs of the Council. Consider where you fit in and get involved. The success of the Council depends on each of you. I strongly encourage you to get involved in this year's raffle; this is the primary source of funding for our programs. I will continue, with your help, to move our council to become even better than it currently is.
Vivat Jesu,
Thom Ciesicki, Grand Knight, Council 8989
August 2006 Council Events
We have begun a new fraternal year and will soon install a new set of officers to guide our Council. It is important that we include each of them in our daily prayers. Also include in your our Brother Knights and their families that are in great need. Our daily lives should be a constant reminder to those around us that we are Disciples of Jesus
Fraternally Yours,

Family Director Needed
In order to allow Darryl Fedewa to concentrate on the Membership Director's job and to make sure that the Council Family activities go forward under the proper guidance, there is a need for a Brother Knight to volunteer to be the Family Director. Please consider this position and contact Mark Gawronski (markgawronski@sbcglobal.net) if you can do it.
Council Raffle Planning Begins
Planning has started for our 2006 Raffle, which will take place on Saturday, October 14. The Raffle provides the major funding for our charitable activities. A small group of knights met with our new Grand Knight, Thom Ciesicki, onWednesday, July 19, to get things started. Our Raffle date is one week earlier than last year, so we have a lot of tasks to complete in a shorter time. All members are asked to participate in our "Big Fundraising" event for the year.Think about how you participated last year and step forward to volunteer again this year. All knights should feel the responsibility to help with the activities and to sell tickets. The raffle program this year will be similar to last year’s very successful event. Look for ways to help out. Don’t wait to be asked!

Pro-Life News
Council helps out at Virtue & Chastity EventOn Sunday, July 2, Chris Godfrey, former U of M and NY Giant tackle, made a presentation on Virtue, Abstinence and Respect for Life to middle school children attending a local swim camp. Your Council was there to help again with the presentation and to provide a pizza and pop supper. Anne and Don Courtois took Paul Ward’s place this year and Bob Klingler was there to help. Ron Rosnowski (Council 3230) and wife Jeanne also participated.
About forty kids with parents attended Chris’ presentation. It was very well received and each kid got his or her picture taken with Chris, while wearing Chris’ Super Bowl ring. Chris has over three hundred professional or Olympic athletes in his organization of Life Athletes and they make these presentations all around the country.
The young people are asked to make the following commitments: 1. I will try to do what is right, even when it is difficult. 2. I will give myself only to that special person whom I marry as my life partner for life. 3. I will respect the lives of others, especially the unborn and the aged. 4. I will not quit or make excuses when I fail. I will try again.

Parish Picnic in September
The St. Francis Parish Picnic is scheduled for Sunday, September 10 following the 12:15pm Mass. We are need of 12 men and their families to help clean up, following the picnic, at 4:00pm. Volunteers are also needed to serve food, empty trashcans, help with games and staff the snow cone machine. Call Robert Klingler 734-332-3993 or Marty Lucas 769-2330 if you are able to assist.
NECESSITY
People nowadays cannot imagine life without cars—but they were once a luxury. Today, cars have become a necessity.Life insurance is the same. Today, more than ever, insurance protection is becoming a necessity rather than a luxury. Insurance can be used as a retirement fund or as a source of income for your family when you are no longer with them.
Why is it smart to have life insurance? Because, frankly, you cannot afford to live without it.
