It's ironic and fitting that
Sunday, November 9 we dedicated
our 2003 Catholic House on the same day the Catholic Church celebrates
the commemoration of the Dedication of the Lateran Basilica in Rome (Pope's
diocesan cathedral). Our Dedication date was chosen months ago and
we were unaware of this coincidence.
On Sunday the weather was sunny and cool, perfect weather for an outdoor
Dedication. After opening prayer by Fr. Terry Dumas (Pastor, Old
St. Patrick Catholic Church, Ann Arbor), a few speakers thanked sponsors,
volunteers and major contributors. Andrea White (Partner Family)
then gave a nice speech and thanked everyone for their efforts. Yvonne
Dulin (Huron Valley Habitat for Humanity Family Support Committee Chair)
then spoke about Andrea and her Habitat involvement and presented Andrea
and Jamel with a Bible, tool kit, cookware set and afghan. A prayer
was then said by Andrea's brother-in-law Rev. Jessie Nelson. The
ceremony ended after Fr. Terry walked through the house and blessed each
room. Refreshments were then enjoyed by all.
There is much work left to do before we receive the Certificate
of Occupancy from Ypsilanti Township. Regardless, thanks to all the
dedicated and thoughtful volunteers and contributors who once again made
this 2003 Catholic House one additional Habitat for Humanity victory.
It was great working with everyone this year,
Steve PolgarCatholic House Leader
