Catholic House Build 2003
Photos & Reflections
On Saturday, June 7, we were finally able to start building the floor deck.  First the foam sill sealer was rolled out and sill plates screwed down from underneath and through the basement wall top flange.  Joist layout per drawings was next.  After a delicious lunch provided by "Amor Padilla on behalf of the Joy of the Lord Community” we started installing the floor joists.  This is the first year we used engineered floor joists (I-Joists).  They are relatively easy to install and with the Rim Boards they are engineered for heavy-duty performance.  They are uniform, start straighter, stay straighter and are manufactured with no camber.  Therefore, there's no chance of crown down or upside down installation.  And they resist shrinking, twisting, warping, and splitting for squeak resistant floors.
Next week we will finish the last few I-Joists and nail down the deck sheets.  Basement stair layout can also start.
Thanks to a great crew, a lot of work was accomplished.    Steve Polgar
