Medications and safe use of taking medications:answering any medication questions are parishioners, Joanna Maud (pharmacist) and her husband, Dr Pangilinan. They will be bringing pharmacy students to help too. Healthy Lifestyle: Information on services offered by the Out Patient clinic at Med Rehab for a healthy lifestyle. Parishioner, Danielle Raymond from Med Rehab will have a table w/information. Disabilities information: Ann Arbor Independent Living will be present Tasty Treats & Coupons:

Yes..., there will be Chocolate at the 2008 Health Fair!!! Did you know that Dark Chocolate may reduce high blood pressure? From the report on Hypertension: Journal of the American Heart Association reports that if you have high blood pressure, a daily bar-sized serving of flavonol-rich dark chocolate might lower your blood pressure and improve insulin resistance. Not to be outdone..., The Quaker Oatmeal Man will also have oatmeal snack bars to sample. Why Oatmeal? It doesn't taste like chocolate or look like chocolate But....,Oatmeal is cholesterol-free and made of whole grains. It contains soluble fiber that actually binds to and helps remove cholesterol from the blood. No one needs clogged arteries, so it is a good idea to add oatmeal to your diet. It is the perfect winter food too because it is hot and creamy and tastes great with a little cinnamon. Tobacco Smoke. Smoking is the single most preventable cause of death in the United States. Constant exposure to other peoples smoke increases your risks as well, even if you don't smoke. Stop by and see what smoking can do to your lungs and obtain valuable information on the risks of smoking. Linda Thomas, MS, CTTS-M Manager Tobacco Consultation Service University of Michigan Health System will have information available on the importance of not smoking and has classes available to sign up for that will help you in your journey to quit smoking and get healthy in 2008. Do you have a loved one that spends a lot of time alone and you worry about their safety. For peace of mind meet w/Tracey Newhouse form Michigan Visiting Nurses who will present their line of Lifeline equipment, and how to get a Lifeline installed in your home. Debbie Maitland, RN and the Faith Community Nurse Liaison from St Joseph hospital will have a display demonstrating the effects alcohol has on your body. Heart Disease is the number one killer of men and women. Know your risks for Heart Disease and Stroke. Take Steps to take control of your health. #1 High Blood Pressure which is also called Hypertension makes the heart work harder then normal. This makes your heart and arteries more prone to injury. You have a high risk if you are 20 pounds or more overweight, have a family history of high blood pressure, or have reached the age of menopause. Find out at our Blood Pressure screening so you can take action to lower it if you need to. #2 High Blood Cholesterol has no symptoms and many people have it without knowing it. Find out what your cholesterol level is so you can lower it if you need to. #3 Physical Inactivity and Stress will make you much more likely to develop heart disease or have a stroke. Stop by the MFIT information table and obtain information on ways to increase your level of physical activity. Or stop and have a relaxing free chair massage offered by Debbie Upton a certified Massage therapist. #4 Obesity, or overweight. Having too much body fat- especially if a lot of it is in your waist area- puts you at a higher risk for developing health problems. The Great Harvest Bread Company, Eden Foods and The Whole Foods Company will be providing samples of healthy alternative foods and nutritional information. #5 Other exciting Free services include; oral cancer screening provided by Dr Wally Niemann. Dr Terry Bergstrom will be offer screening for Glaucoma. #6 Proper hand washing will be demonstrated. #7 Specialists in injury prevention James Pribble and Cecile Hollingsheade will provide information on how to make your home a safer place to live. #8 Get answers to questions about your medications and gain information about the safety issues surrounding medications in the home from parishioners, Joanna Maud, pharmacist and Dr Jun Pangilinan. #9 Living w/a physical disability can be a challenge. The Ann Arbor Center for Independent Living will be available to talk about ways to live independently, and about resources that are available in the community. #10. Hearing screenings will be offered by Beltone Hearing Care Centers, in the school library. #11 Med Rehab will be available to demonstrate the interventional programs for medical rehabilitation. #12 The American Red Cross will provide information on the importance of donating blood in our community. T-shirts will be given to participants who donate blood at the next blood drive at St Francis (on May ??). #13 Healthy beverages will be available ... V8 , Bottled Water and Green tea. Information that explains the nutritional benefits of consuming these products will be available. #14 Learn the benefits of incorporating Soy into your diet. Information about Soy, soy products and samples of soy cookies and soy milk will be available #15 Learn the correct way to brush and floss your teeth, demonstrated
by staff from Dr. Kimberly Rice family dentistry office.
